Range Hood Installation

Installing a new, premium range hood is an easy and inexpensive way to transform your kitchen. Whether you’re planning on putting your house on the market or simply making home improvements, an updated range hood adds value and function to your cooking space. Here are some DIY tips to install a range hood.

Where Can You Install a Range Hood?

Before you install your range hood, you’ll need to determine where it should go. Your current set up or the type of home you own may make this decision easier, but there are still a few options to consider before placing your range hood.

Why Choose Rise Up Electrical

Under Kitchen Cabinets

Under-cabinet range hoods fit under your kitchen cabinets. Your kitchen cabinetry conceals any ductwork, and you don’t typically have to worry about installing a chimney. Under-cabinet range hoods are the most compact and best if you have limited space.

On the Wall

Wall mount range hoods have become increasingly popular in modern kitchen remodels. They are usually made with a sleek stainless steel design and chimney that covers the duct leading outside through a wall or the ceiling. Wall mount range hoods are larger and involve more setup, so they are better suited for larger kitchens.

Over the Kitchen Island

Install an island range hood over your kitchen island. These free-standing hoods draw contaminants and other kitchen debris up and vent out directly through your ceiling. Island mounts are some of the largest and put a lot of strain on your ceiling since there is no wall to support its weight. If you plan to install an island range hood, ensure there is enough bracing to hold its weight.

Custom Range Hoods

While most range hoods are stainless steel, you can find or build a custom range hood to match your custom kitchen cabinetry. Rise Up Electrical has custom range hood options to match most kitchen designs.

Installing a Range Hood

Many range hoods today allow for DIY installation, especially if you’re replacing something that was already installed. Follow these instructions if you’re looking to replace a range hood in your kitchen.

  • Remove the old hood
  • Find and mark the vent holes
  • Cut and drill the vent holes
  • Line up and cut outside siding if vents are going through the wall
  • Attach the air duct to the outside siding
  • Run power to the new range hood
  • Ensure power is cut and connect electrical wires

The process of installing a range hood is a straightforward one, but when doing electrical work, it is sometimes best to consult a professional. Rise Up Electrical has experienced electricians who can make sure your range hood installation is done safely.

Very happy customer! I can't thank Ben, Fouad & Bradley enough for fixing an electrical fault (and dodgy wiring from times gone by) to make my home safer (as well as installing some additional points, tidying up some others and installing new interconnected smoke alarms).

Great experience, they actually turned up when they said they would. The guy took the time to look for leaks other than the obvious one, and found them. Saving us a return visit. Pricing is fair. Would definitely recommend.
